Digital & Traditional Underwater Photography

by Jan Oldenhuizing

Since the introduction of digital photography in the underwater world, many things have changed with respect to the technical options for the underwater photographer. In traditional photography many have developed a habit to use external TTL strobes - an option which is not or hardly available for most digital camera"s. This is not really a problem - professionals hardly use TTL technology, TTL is only useful in some circumstances and 20 years ago virtually all underwater pictures were taken without TTL.

It does mean that it is time to take a look at photo theory again. The TTL example shows that there are new limitations, but there are also new options. The digital photographer can "change film" under water during the dive between pictures. Those who want to make use of the new options and want to know how to work around new limitations do well to study Digital & Traditional Underwater Photography.

The book is a source of information for those who want to learn underwater photography. It is written in a sequence that lends itself well for both courses and self study. Also the experienced underwater photographer will find many useful tips and advice in this book.
